m ABSTRACT THE EVALATION OF THE CURRICULUM OF ELECTIVE COURSES, AT PRIMARY SCHOOL 6TH, 7TH AND 8TH GRADES, DIRECTON OF TEACHERS AND STUDENTS OPINIONS Bilge Sonay TAŞ Master Thesis, Department of Education Sciences Supervisor: Prof. Dr. Adil TÜRKO?LU October, 2004, 132 pages This research is a descriptive study done whitin technique of general survey model to determine opinions of teachers and students about curriculum of elective courses. The opinions of teachers and students were taken about elective courses learning of ingredients, the content, the learning process, the testing process and general practice of elective courses 17 primary schools were chosen for the research, in Seyhan and Yüreğir. These schools were identified at random. All optional course' s teachers and only one 8. level students for each elective course, in the school, answered the questionnare form. The questionnaire, used in this research, prepared by applying to the specialist's opinions. The questionnaire form is formed by two parts. In the first part related to personel questions, in the second part elective courses' questions are placed. Teachers and students questionnaire generally are same but also different questions are placed. Elective courses, given by the result of the research, are determined by the school administration and teachers board. Teachers and students think that these courses should be chosen by the students if the necessary possibilities are supplied. Generally it is stated that elective courses are necessary and useful for the students. Nevertheles, both teachers and students wishings for carrying out more productively the electiveIV courses are determined. Explanations and question- answer techniques are used while presenting lesson. Mostly, written exams and written expressions are used as an evaluation technique. As a result of research, it is determined the need of innovations and progress at the curriculum of elective courses. Key words: elective courses, primary school, curriculum, curriculum evaluation.
