Abstract (EN)
The purpose of this study is to determine whether 6th grade primary school students have acquired map and globe usage skills in social information classes and the extent this skill, if it has been acquired. It has been found out that type of the school the student attends, student's sexuality, income of the family, the fact that if the student's mother is working or not, the occupation of the father, the interest in geography and the belief that learning these subjects is required; had an effect on each of the eight predetermined map and globe usage skills.In the study that has been designed in accordance with the qualitative research methods, survey technique has been used.The results have been analyzed in accordance with the qualitative research methods and evaluated by utilizing SPSS (Statistical Packet for the Social Sciences).At the end of the evaluation process, out of all the map and globe usage skills, understanding the distances has been the least acquired skill with a percentage of 40% and map scale skill has been the second in least acquired skills with a percentage of 42%. The maximum acquired skill is the map interpretation with a percentage of 74%.It has been seen that the children of the working mothers were more successful than the children of the non-working mothers, the students of the private schools are more successful than of state schools while there is no difference in the acquisition level of skills among sexes.Key Words : Map, Globe, Primary School, Social Information, Skill
