Opinions of teachers regardingproblemsencountered in social studies courses in the six grade (Ankara provincial sample)

The main objective of this study is to investigate the opinions and recommendations of teachers of social sciences teaching to the sixth graders in primary schools as permanent staff.Cosmos of the study consists of the Social Sciences Teachers teaching to the students of the sixth grade in primary schools under the Ministry of National Education in Çankaya, Mamak, Keçiören, Sincan, and Yenimahalle sub provinces of the provincial center of Ankara in the academic year of 2009/10. Sampling of the study consists of the Social Sciences Teachers teaching to the students of the sixth grade in 50 primary schools that were selected with systematic sampling method among the primary schools in Çankaya, Mamak, Keçiören, Sincan, and Yenimahalle sub provinces of the provincial center of Ankara in the academic year of 2009/10 (108 individuals in total).Data were obtained with the data collection tool (questionnaire) that was developed by the researcher. Questionnaires applied to the teachers handles that personal information regarding the teachers, their opinions related to the program, their difficulties in the practice of the program, and their evaluations and recommendations about the program. Here, it was attempted to evaluate whether or not the opinions of the teachers have changed according to variables, and whether or not significant differences exist between these opinions.SPSS 11.5 package program was used to assess the data obtained from the application of the questionnaire. When analyzing the findings, differences between the opinions of the social sciences teachers related to the program were compared using the ?t-test? with a significance level of 0.05. Tables were created related to the distributions of frequency (f) and percentage (%), and it was attempted to interpret these tables.At the end of this study, it can be concluded that differences do exist in the opinions of social sciences teachers in general regarding this program that is currently being applied in primary schools according to the departments they have been graduated from, gender, and number of years passed in service, and these differences develop in a positive way in general. As regards the assessment element of the program, it is notable that teachers have more negative opinions. Recommendations based on results have been given.
