Investigation of readability levels of sixth grade social studies' textbooks in primary schools

It was aimed to determine readability levels of sixth grade social studies? textbooks in Primary Education Schools in this investigation.Present investigation, performed with descriptive method, was carried out in first semester period in Education-Training Year of 2007-2008, Çayıralan, Yozgat. Six texts which prepared with different expression methods were selected from the books published by either Ministry of National Education or Private Publishers. These texts were applied to the students.Quantitative data obtained from this application were analyzed statistically using by the SPSS (SPSS for Windows 98, version 11.5) software package program.What are the readability levels in the school books? Readabilities of the books prepared by Ministry of National Education or Private Publishers are in which level, and is there any difference between these two publishers regarding text readability? What is the readability levels of texts prepared with different expression methods, and is there any readability difference between the methods? Which texts prepared by different expression methods have high readability levels? This study aimed to find out solution proposals for these questions.The findings of the present study and solution proposals derived from the results aimed to serve for written of new school books which will be prepared. Furthermore, this study aimed to supplement great lack of related literature.
