The investigation of primary school students? in 7 th grade skills in solving algebraic verbal problem by equation.

The main purpose of this study; in accordance with the acquisitions in algebra of 2005 elemantary math program, is to identify the errors that are made by 7th grader students during solving algebraic verbal problem and to identify the skills of writing the best equation and the level of success by solving the written equation to reach the result.This research has been done by the help of the 364 7th grade public school students which are chosen by random sampling method. These students have been attending public schools in Yüreğir/Adana in 2008- 2009 academic year. For this research; as a tool for data collection problems involving algebraic verbal problem tests are used. With these datas, students? the ability of setting equations for algebraic verbal problems and the rate of solving these problems are searched. And for determining their kinds of failyres, their answer sheets are analyzed.The analyzes of the datas obtained from the data collection tool has shown that success rate of setting and solving equation is quite low. As a result of this research, it is obviously seen that 7th grade students have difficulties and mistakes while setting and solving equation.Keywords : Problem Solving, Verbal Problems, Setting Equation, Solving Equation
