The effect of the use of 3-d plastic relief map on learning in primary education 7th. grade social sciences lesson

The aim of this research is to provide students learn the country?s geography more easily and lastingly by producing an up-to-date 3-D plastic relief map to be used in social sciences lessons.Social Sciences Lecture Books (from 4th to 8th grades) of Ministry of National Education were examined for this aim.The population for the research were a total of 78 students in two groups from Abdullah Tokur Primary Education School . The research instrument, which is used to measure the students? first-phase and last-phase knowledge (pretest posttest design) level about social sciences lessons, is made up of 25 multi-choice questions. Prepared with the help of the experts and students, the test was applied to 100 students and the result data was converted to scores as ?0? and ?1?. The research instrument was at first planned to contain 25 themes; but after considering expert views, theme difficulty levels, theme dicsrimination indexes and total theme correlations, the number of themes was reduced to 20. Kuder-Richardson (KR 20) formula was used for the reliabilitiy test and the coefficient of reliability was designated as 70.SPSS ( The Statistical Packet for The Social Science) and Excel programs were used for the statistical solutions of the quantitative data collected. Arithmetic mean, standard deviation and t-test were used for score calculations.At the end of the research, it was observed that plastic relief map, through making students active in learning process, has a lasting effect on students? level of learning as compared with traditional methods.As a result, it was observed that the use of plastic relief map has resulted in more ?learning? as compared with traditional methods. Thus, the use of plastic relief maps as supplementary materials in primary education social sciences lessons is suggested.
