An investigation of the 8th grade students' attitudes towards the environment (sample of Bitlis city)

Attitudes and behaviours of people about the environment that is getting more and more vital for all creatures in the world, is very important. In this research, it is determined to identify the level of the attitudes and behaviours of the 8th grade students towards the environment and to detect if it makes any meaningful differences or not, considering some demographic factors. For this purpose, the "Environmental Attitude Scale" developed for secondary school students by Yücel (2013) was applied to eighth grade students who are studying in schools in Bitlis province in 2018-2019. The data acquired from the scale are analyzed by the programme SPSS to analyze the questions in the research properly and suitability for the objectives of the research. In the data analyzing phase, Unpaired T Test, One Way Analysis of Variance (Anova) and Pierson Correlation Analysis techniques are used. When the research results are examined, 8th grade students' have got high willingness on feelings, ideas and behaviours towards the environment. In addition to this, meaningful differences are discovered among students' points of behaviours and ideas about their monthly income, points of the behaviours, ideas and willingness to take action according to their settlement area, total points of attitudes, ideas and feelings according to their academic achievements and total points of their attitudes, ideas and feelings about their gender. Meaningful differences are established according the education level of the fathers of the students but no differences are established about the education levels of the mothers of the students.
