Abstract (EN)
In this study, 355 Turkish 8th grade SBS mathematics questions of years 1998-2012, and 89 released items of TIMSS-2007 are classified and compared according to TIMSS-2007 cognitive domains.According to the findings, of the SBS mathematics items between years 1998-2012 29.30% are in "Knowing", 60% in "Applying" and 10.70% in "Reasoning" cognitive domain. While, 25.84% of 89 mathematics released items of TIMSS-2007 are in "Knowing", 61.79% are in "Applying" and 12.36% are in "Reasoning" cognitive domain. The results are discussed in the light of Turkey's performances in the past years' TIMSS technical reports. Finally, suggestions concerning high stakes tests in Turkey are given.
