The relationship between the sixth graders self concept related to the computer course and their achievement in computer

This research was conducted to examine the relationship between the sixth graders? self-concept related to the computer course and their achievement in computer course. Academic self-concept is how a student sees his/herself at school and how he/she compares himself/herself to other students. The accumulation of the perceptions of the student will eventually affect his/her achievement in the future. This is a survey ?type study conducted in line with the aims and within limitations outlined in the text and mainly aims to describe the current situation. The Academic Self-Concept Scale, the items of which were developed by the researcher making use of the items about computer in the scale previously developed by Yıldız Kuzgun, and a test of achievement, developed by the researcher were used to collect data from the sample. The data were analyzed through the statistics program SPSS 11.0 and the statistical techniques arithmetic mean, standart deviation, t-test (for the variable gender), analysis of variance (for the variables parents? education, family?s income, grand total of scores and achievement) were used to analyze the data. To find out the source of difference among groups, Scheffe test was used. The research has discerned that academic self-concept levels of the groups do not vary significantly in terms of gender, that the academic self-concept scores of the students whose parents have graduate degrees are significantly higher than those of others. And the academic self- concept levels of the students increase as the family income levels increase and that there is a positive correlation between academic selfconcept and achievement.
