First and second part primary school student`s writing errors and opinions of teachers

In this study, writing mistakes were observed in the first and second stage students of primary education, and views of teachers in respect of this matter evaluated. For these purposes, a literature search was performed relating to the writing mistakes. Survey form relevant to the subject matter was given to the teachers in order to obtain their views and writing samples of the students. These writings were evaluated on the basis of 21 writing errors criteria. The findings of study may be summarized as follows. 1. The teachers in primary schools do not have much more information about writing mistakes of students despite they are aware of some which are originated from the reasons such as visual, oral and learning disturbances. 2. Teachers mention that they can not individually study with their students in their classes, and agree on the issue that students have problems in relation with writing and notebook order. 3. Teachers think that the writing programs on teaching writing are insufficient, and the seminars or training courses are to be given in relation with the writing mistakes. 4. The teachers of the first and second stages think that the reasons of the conveying the writing errors to the upper classes depend on the hastiness of teaching writing and the incorrect teaching of teachers in the first class, who have not well received education on this particular matter. 5.According to the findings obtained, it is understood mat not a large difference as percentage exists among the views of male and female teachers in regards to writing mistakes. VI6. When writing of students participated in the study are examined, it is observed that the students have made a quite number of mistakes in accordance with the criteria specified, and that the mistakes which are not corrected momentarily are increasingly conveyed to the further classes. 7. No significant difference as percentage exists among the creation of writing errors, and views of teachers according to their seniority and educational status. As a result of the study, teachers should be made conscious on writing errors, and the seminars and courses on writing difficualties should be given.
