Abstract (EN)
During childhood enuresis is secondly most seen chronic disease afterwards allergic diseases and may cause serious psychologic problems in children. In some recent studies, it was informed that enuresis will be related to food allergies and after oligoantigenic diet nocturnal enuresis may improve. Additionally, history of proven allergy and asthma were reported significantly more seen in enuretic cases resistant to treatment according to control group. The aim of the study was to examine relation between asthma, atopy and enuresis which is rarely reported in literature.Study group was consisted of 1474 cases from the three primary school children 1-5. classes in the city center and 50 children with asthma from the outpatient clinic, between May 2007- January 2008. A questionnaire form which including International Study of Asthma and Allergies in Childhood (ISAAC) and Pediatric Sleep Questionnaire (PSQ), and a form of questioning enuresis and social-demographic profile of families was distributed to parents of children, and 1021 (%66.9) questionnaire included to this study. For statistical analysis, SPSS for Windows 15.0 software is used. Data were tested with chi-square and logistic regression analysis and p values of <0.05 were accepted as a significant. In the study, 52.2% were girls, 47.8% were boys of 1021 cases and mean age of study group was found as a 8.8±1.48 years. Prevalence of asthma 11%, enuresis diurna (ED) 15.5%, enuresis nocturna (EN) 5.3% and continuous enuresis 5.2% were found in 971 primary school children. Enuresis nocturna was seen in %23.2 of asthmatic cases and %9.8 of non-asthmatic cases (p<0.01). As a result of logistic regression analysis, monosymptomatic EN was found that significantly associated with family history (p<0.001), male gender (p=0.004), asthma (p=0.006), sleep disorder breathing (SDB) (p=0.012), and ED found only significantly associated with SDB (p=0.02). Consequently, in our study it was shown that EN statistically more frequently seen in asthmatic cases than non-asthmatic cases. Keywords: asthma, atopy, enuresis, childhood
