The value of self-control in religious culture and ethics course textbooks in primary schools

The study aims to determine how the value of self-control is presented in Religious Culture and Ethics Course curriculum and textbooks in primary schools and how contents of the subject contribute to the development of this value. The subject and problem, purpose, importance and method of the research have been determined and presented in the introduction part. The research consists of two parts. In the first part, the theoretical framework is scanned and the concepts of value and values education are discussed. Values education approaches are examined with examples. In addition, examples of some of these approaches that improve the value of self-control are included. The concept of self-control is given in detail and the development of this value is explained. The contributions and function of self-control to the individual and society, and also the contributions to the domains of belief, worship and morality in Islam are examined. In the second part, the Primary Education Religious Culture and Ethics Course curriculum and textbooks are discussed in consideration of values education and self-control, and the ones which improve self-control among the course contents are explained with tables. In the conclusion part, the results which are obtained in the study and recommendations are included. In the study, it is seen that the value of self-control is not directly and adequately included in the curriculum and textbooks, and generally indirect associations are made.
