Evaluation of elementary religious culture and moral knowledge curriculum in terms of intercultural religious education

Today, factors such as rapid developments in communication technologies, migration mobility, globalization, human rights claims affected communities deeply. This effect has given rise to demand to protection of individual religious, linguistic, cultural differences. One of the areas that should be taken into account is the subject Religion Morals. Addressing the differences, procedure is very important in the way of reaching objectives. Intercultural approach to religious education has an important function in this process. The aim of this study is to identify in what way the pluralism in Islam and pluralism in Religious Education are indicated. Problem, purpose, importance, and basic concepts of the research were determined in the introduction chapter and formed the conceptual framework of the study. In the first chapter, the aims of education and religious education were discussed. After literature review, we also informed about approaches of pluralistic religious education models and intercultural religious education. In the second chapter, we evaluated Elementary Religious Culture And Moral Knowledge Curriculum and textbooks with regards to the approaches of intercultural religious education, pluralism in Islam and pluralism in religious education.As a result of this study, in the curriculum of Religion and Moral classes at Elementary School, the purposes of intercultural religious education are taken into consideration and related subjects are partly given place. In the way of pluralism, it can be said that some observable steps are taken but they weren?t found enough.
