The investigation of the effects of project based learning approach to the students? academical achievement and attitude in elementary science and technology education

The purpose of this research is to assess the effects of project based learning approach to the students? academical achievement an attitude in elementary science and technology education. The study is applied in 2007-2008 academic year at spring term on the students of Bursa town, Osmangazi township, Bursa Yeni Kültür Primary Education School. Class 6/D is selected as control group and class 6/E is selected as experiment group. Study is applied on two groups, one of them is experiment group with 23 people and the other is control group with 23 people so in total 46 students. Research has been made on Primary School sixth class ?Light and Sound? Unit.Before starting the research, for the evaluation of student?s advance information; advance information test, scientific information test and attitude scale has been applied. While courses in Control Group has been performed with Traditional Learning Method; courses in Experiment Group has been performed with Project Based Learning Method. At the end of the research, scientific information test and attitude scale has been applied to either experiment group and control group as a last test and acting activities? effect to the success and attitude has been evaluated.According to the results of research, there is a meaningful difference the attitude and suuccess toward Science Education course between the group which has been applied Project Based Learning Method and the group which has been applied Traditional Learning Method.Key Words: Teaching Science, Project, Project Based Learning, Attitude
