A case study regarding the perception of creativity in kids? painting within theframework of the Primary School Visual Arts course (painting and handiworkcourse)Serap TÜTÜNCÜABSTRACTIt has been observed that, despite its importance, the concept of creativity inchildren?s paintings cannot pursue a development that is consistent with the targetedobjectives within the framework of the Primary School Visual Arts course (paintingand handiwork course) and that problems pertaining to creativity concept areexperienced at the practical stage.In this research, which is called a case study regarding the perception ofcreativity in kids? painting within the framework of the Primary School Visual Artscourse (painting and handiwork course), the perception of creativity at kids? painting,the existence and significance of creativity at the training programs and educationalmethods are elaborated on. Three features regarding this course are indicated. Theseare how the creativity concept is perceived, what the creative activities applied in thecourse are and how these contribute to the kid in making the painting that is havingan artistic and creative aspect. The information regarding the impacts of the teachingmethods and the activities applied in this course and outside the course, the attitudeof the teacher, the physical conditions of the school is obtained at the primaryschools analyzed in this study and some suggestions have been made regarding thesubject matter.?Screening Model? has been used in the research. By purposeful sampling 15primary schools have been selected at the city center of Izmir. While identifying theperceptions of 22 painting and handiwork teachers who are still actively on duty aform that consisted of open and close ended questions has been used and the datahave been recorded by means of the participative observation and semi-structuredinterview method. The assessments have been performed based on these data and adescriptive research has been carried out.It is foreseen that the problems regarding this course can be resolved bytaking many strategic decisions such as attributing more importance to creativityconcept, facilitating the applicability of special methods and techniques, updating theknowledge of the teachers at schools by means of internal trainings.
