Evaluation of efficient classroom management behaviours of secondary school English teachers according to teachers' and students' perceptions

In this research, effective classroom management behaviours of Secondary School English Language Teachers are evaluated according to the opinions of teachers and their students. It is tried to identify whether the opinions differ according to gender and to status (teacher ? student). The population of the research is composed of teachers who are working at the Secondary Schools in Kırşehir province and in the districts of Kırşehir and students who are studying at these schools. The data is gathered through a questionnaire developed and used by Altındağ (2006). Frequency, t-test, percentage, and X-Square (X2) techniques were applied for the analysis of the data. In the research different dimensions of classroom management such as planning, motivation, teaching, feedback and correction and preventing misbehaviours are addressed. The results of the research showes that the frequency of effective classroom management behaviours of Secondary School English Language Teachers do not differ according to the perceptions of genders however, there is a meaningful difference between the opinions of teachers and students. Although the teachers think that they display these behaviours more often, the students think that the teachers display these behaviours less often.Key Words: Secondary School, English Language Teacher, Efficient Classroom Management
