Özet (EN)

The rapid increase in violence and related issues in Turkey and within this scope, violence becaoming a problem including children and teenagers make decision makers, service providers, parents and every individual in society do something. In this context, it is necessary that students, being the future of society, and teachers? perceptions of violence be determined. In this study, in our education system how violence is perceived and how it is conceptualized was tried to determine through teachers and students? views. The study consists of two seperate sections. In the first section which forms the quantitative part, relational screening model and in the second section forming the qualitative part content analysis were applied. This research was conducted on 953 teachers and working in Elazıg city center and its districts and 348 students studying in Elazıg city center and its districts. The data research were gathered through Violence Perception Scale developed by the researcher. The reliability coefficient of the scale was calculated with Cronbach?s alpha reliability coefficient and it was found to be reliable. When factor analysis was applied, while students? KMO (Kaiser Meyer Olkin Measure of Sampling Adequancy) =, 907, Bartlett (Bartlett? s Test of Sphericity) = 9,865E3 were found, teachers? KMO (Kaiser Meyer Olkin Measure of Sampling Adequancy) = ,851, Bartlett (Bartlett? s Test of Sphericity) = 5,259E3 were found. While Cronbach?s Alpha reliability coefficient of the scale for students was found as .877, Cronbach?s Alpha reliability coefficient of the scale for teachers was found as, 821. In the analysis of the data, at first, Homogeneity Test (Levene?s) was applied; one-way variance analysis for homogeneous items and Kruskal Wallis test was applied for non-homogeneous items. Mann-Whitney U test (MWU) was applied in order to determine the source of the difference when significant difference between groups was found. In paired comparisons, T-test was utilized. The significance level was set as p<0,05. In personal findings, frequency and percentage values were used.In qualitative section, the open-ended questions ?Violence is ?. like??Because ??? and ?What do you feel when violence is used?? were asked to survey participants and conceptual categories were formed in accordance with the answers. The views were evaluated through Nvivo 9.As a result of the research, It was determined that teachers? perceptions of violence were higher than students?. This finding supports the view that violence is a learned behaviour. Violence in schools provide evidence of this as well.
