Teachers' opinions about the curriculum of the media literacy in primary education

The aim of this investigation is to execute the teachers?-who attend Media Literacy Lesson in the city of Bolu-opinions about the curriculum of Primary Education Media Literacy Lesson, and to make suggestions in required situations.In the investigation qualitative method had been used. The data were acquired by using conversation method with eigth teachers who are attending Media Literacy Lesson in 7 schools set in the county town of Gerede, Bolu province, in 2008-2009 school year spring term. The opinions of the working group had been analized with content analysis technic by gathering from the interview form consisting 17 questions and personal information form consisting 12 quesitons which are prepared by the investigator.At the end of the investigation, it is thought that the acquisitions, which take place in Media Literacy Lesson Curriculum commonly used at 6th, 7th and 8th grades, may be applicable in daily life, cohorent with each other, compatible with the content and realisable. It is indicated that activity samples and content which take place in the programme, must be shaped according to the class levels. In addition, the teachers are thought to be incapable in the measurement-evaluation applications. Being elective and not being evaluated with mark, Media Literacy lesson causes this problem. For this reason, the teachers who have been interviewed, suggested that Media Literacy must be compulsory subject both in order to correct the faults and to increase the motivation of the students. Because the content is being acquired via activity in the pragramme, that?s why the teachers had indicated that they didn?t find the content comprehensible. Besides, the necessity of the preparation of the working books related with Media Literacy lesson is thought.Key Words: Media Literacy, curriculum.
