The effects of school inspections performed by elementary school inspectors on the intrinsic motivation and job satisfaction level of teachers.

This study aimed to analyse the effects of school inspections performed by elementary school inspectors on the work satisfaction and intrinsic motivation of teachers.The study control-group was approached according to an experimental design. The study group involved five elementary schools selected from the central district of Kırşehir during academic year 2010-2011. Non-inspected 34 teachers constituted the control group, and 27 teachers that underwent an inspection constituted the experimental group. The quantitative data; collected using the Minnesota Satisfaction Questionnaire (Cronbach's alpha = 0.77) developed by Weiss, Davis and England (1967), adapted into Turkish by Baycan (1985) and Intrinsic Motivation Scale (Cronbach's alpha = 0.86) developed by Dündar and others based on the motivation model of Mottaz, C.J. (1985) and evaluated using the SPSS 15.00 program. Frequency, percentage, arithmetic mean, standard deviation, t-test and pearson correlation were used in the evaluation of parametric data while Kolmogorov-Smirnov test (KS-test) and Mann-Whitney U test were used in the evaluation of non-parametric data. Qualitative data were collected usingsemi-structured interview form, and analysed using the content analysis method.At the end of the study, it has been concluded that the inspections performed by elementary school inspectors do not make a positive contribution to the level of work satisfaction and intrinsic motivation of teachers.In the light of the findings of the research, educators and educational researchers have been given some recommendations.
