Elementary school students? perception levels of relationship between science-technology-society-environment (STSE) and determination of scientific attitude (sample of Kırşehir city)

Abstract (EN)

In this research, how elementary school students? scientific attitude and perception levels of STSE has changed depending on level of class and socioeconomic environment of the schools they are in has been discussed.Research is a type of descriptive study in which both qualitative and quantitative methods have been used. Among the qualitative study condition designs, multiple condition design has been used.Research has been done in an elementary school representing high socioeconomic environment?s school and in an elementary school representing low socioeconomic environment?s school both situated in Kırşehir in 2006-2007 school year. To be able to determine the research group to participate in, scientific process skills tests of which reliability and validity having been calculated. From each class 2 students with the most correct answers and 2 students with the most wrong answers have been chosen. Thus half configured interviews have been done in total with 40 students 20 from each school. Interviews having been recorded by using voice recorder and camera has been dictated and decoded systematically by means of index analysis.In analysis of research?s sub-problems, arithmetic mean, standard deviation, descriptive statistics, Simple/Bivariate Correlation: Pearson Correlation Coefficient, Kruskal Wallis H-Test for Independent Samples have been used.At the end of the research, it has been observed that elementary school students? perception levels of STSE relation has been changed disorderly as long as the level of class rises. In addition to the fact that students in high and low socioeconomic environments are able to percept STSE relation, this perception level is better in the school of high socioeconomic environment.It has been determined that elementary school students? scientific attitudes are positive, students have scientific attitudes in same level according to schools, scientific attitudes have not differed according to the levels of class. Also it has been seen that the relation between STSE and scientific attitude is middle level, positive and meaningful.Key Words: Scientific literacy, Science-Technology-Society-Environment (STSE) relation, scientific attitude, multiple condition design.
