The investigation of knowledge construction process of primary school students while developing geometric thinking levels

This research aims to investigate 7th grade students knowledge construction process in geometry and to find an answer to the questions: ` How do the 7th grades students construct their knowledge while developing their geometric thinking levels?? with a close analysis of their process of forming knowledge.This study, which mostly involves qualitative research techniques, as well covers quantitative ones to be highly appropriate for the research questions highlighted. It involves experimental pre-test post test model to define the affect of teaching by making discovery learning strategy to the students? geometric thinking levels. The study covers 118 students attending 7th grades in two different private schools. The research method is also involves case study since it aims to find out how students with different geometric thinking levels construct knowledge. Knowledge construction process of twelve different students at 7th grade is analysed. During this analysis process different methods like interview and observation data collection techniques are also used. Knowledge construction process is analyzed on the bases of RBC abstraction theory.On the bases of the results of experimental study findings it can be stated that the activities which are designed so stat students can make discoveries help students improve their geometric thinking levels. It is identified that on the bases of case study while constructing their knowledge students with different geometric thinking levels have different approaches. It can also be stated that the students vary in terms of the mathematical language they use, the hypothesis they make and the way they use while making it.
