Opinions of elementary school students on school songs

The present study was examined the opinions of elementary school students on school songs by relating them to variables which may have effect on opinions. Students? gender, ages; radio, TV and internet usage frequencies, opinions about topics ? lyrics of school songs and the conditions of teacher?s benefitting from a material during the song teaching/singing process were determined as variables. A five level likert type student questionnaire was designed to get data from students. The results of this study were indicated that the students had no positive opinions about the topics which employed in school songs. Similarly the results were reached that students had no positive opinions about the lyrical compositions in school songs. In the age and gender variables based analysis concerning the viewpoints, no significant differences was found. The conditions of teacher?s benefitting from a material during the teaching/singing processes were examined and it?s seen that benefitting from a material may effect students opinions in positive way, nevertheless a great deal of teachers play no instrument and use no material in these processes. The results were indicated that the students listened to the radio rarely, however, they connected to internet and watch television everyday. As a consequence a relationship was found between the students? negative opinions toward school songs and media usage frequencies.
