Investigation of the relationship between primary school principals' ethical behavior and school climate

Abstract (EN)
In this study the relationship between school principals' ethical behavior and school climate was investigated. The study was modeled as a survey search. The population of the study consists of 4247 teachers working in 64 state primary schools in the Üsküdar district of İstanbul in 2011-2012 educational years. In this survey 248 primary school teachers? questionnaire, 82 of them male (33.1 %) and 166 of them female (66.9 %), were evaluated. A questionnaire consisting of three parts as a data collection tool was used. The first is a survey that includes questions for teachers to gather personal information. Second is the Organizational Climate Description Questionnaire (OCDQ). Finally, Ethical Behavior Scale developed by Kara (2006) was used in order to determine teachers' views of managers? ethical leadership behavior.Primarily in the research frequencies and percentages of variables was used, mean and standard deviation values of the lower dimensions of the scales was found, independent group t-test, one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), Kruskal-Wallis H test, Mann Whitney-U, Pearson Product Moment Correlation analysis was used and the significance were tested at lowest p <0.05 level.According to the findings of teachers' perceptions of school climate, gender (male teachers in favor), task (in favor of the branch teachers) and staff type (in favor of the permanent teachers) variables showed a significant difference according to the sincerity lower dimension. In addition, according to morale lower dimension a significant difference of seniority (in favor of relatively junior teachers) variable were observed.In the analysis to determine the scale of teachers' perceptions of ethical behavior scale, the variables that constitute concluded that no significant difference with lower dimension.As the result of the survey all sub-dimensions (tolerance, honesty, fairness, responsibility) of organizational ethics scale have a significant relationship to the lower the dimensions of school climate (thaw, frustration, sincerity, morale, high care, close monitoring, work withdrawal, rapport). According to this finding, it is observed that school administrators? ethical behaviors have a determining influence on school climate.
