A Study on the grammar points in Turkish textbooks used in primary schools

It can be said that the goals in the teaching of grammar have not beenachieved because of reasons such as the lack in the use of scientific techniques and methods,the lack of sufficient time allocated to grammar content in teacher training institutions, andthe lack of sufficient number of teachers. Additionally the grammar points in textbooks havenot been prepared according to the goals of the lesson and, the levels, needs and the interestsof the students. For these reasons, this research finds it useful to review Turkish textbooksused in primary schools in terms of grammar content and to assesss them.The goal of this study is to identify the physical properties of Turkish textbooks andpoint out the deficits and the differences in them, and finally to give suggestions to wordsmaking necessary improvements related to the field.?A Study On Grammar Points In Turkish Textbooks Used In Primary Schools? iscomprised of 3 parts.In Part I, conceptual framework, the situation, the problem statement, relatedproblems, importance, limitations identification and review of literature were taken intoconsideration.In Part II, textbooks were studied in terms of their physical properties and in relationto grammar content. The grammar subjects in textbooks, words, examples, questions,classifications, errors in knowledge, the differences in approach, the importance given togrammatical parts, and the sequence of the teaching of grammatical points were examined andassessed.In Part III, the grammar content in Turkish textbooks and the insufficiencies anddeficits were identified and suggestions were given in order to guide the related research as aresource. At the conclusion of the study, it has been identified that the grammar points inTurkish textbooks have not been prepared to develop the aims and behoviour relevant toTurkish lessons.Key Words: Turkish Teaching, Grammar Teaching, Textbook
