The relationship between level of 5th grade primary students' trust in teachers and level of attendance to the lessons

The aim of this study is to determine the relation between primary education students? trust level to their teachers and their attendance level to the lessons.Quantitative research method was used in this study. Data was gained with the 17-item survey ?Attendance to the Lessons? prepared by the researcher and 23-item survey ?Students? trust to their Teachers?. The universe of the study was 5th year primary school students having education at 19 different primary schools in the center district in Bolu.Findings below were gained from the study;Students ?Always? agree with the items: ?Our teacher says true?; ?S/He keeps her/his promise?; ?S/He gives importance to our ideas?; ?S/He behaves equally to us?; ?S/He explains the reasons of her/his decisions?; ?S/He is open to our criticisms?; ?I can talk with my teacher freely during the lessons or outside the school?; ?S/He is consistent at her/his decisions?; ?S/He is fair to us?; ?S/He listens to our suggestions?; ?S/He is interested in our problems sincerely?; ?S/He informs us exactly?; ?S/He is tolerant to us?, ?S/He helps me when I need help?; ?S/He is open-minded to us?; ?I feel myself confident with my teacher?; ?S/He always thinks of our favour?; ?I think our teacher does her/his job well?; ?I believe everything s/he says?; ?Our teacher trusts us?. Students ?Never? agree with the items: ?S/He gives us pejorative and mocking nicknames?; ?There are some friends being excluded by our teacher?; ?I doubt most of my teacher?s behaviours?.Students ?Always? agree with the items: ?I listen to the lesson accurately?; ?I pay attention to what my teacher and friends do?; ?I ask questions when I don?t understand something?; ?I ask to speak if I know the answer?; ?I participate in the lessons prepared?; ?I participate in the lessons with the necessary aids?; ?I worry about a new subject?; ?I participate in the group work?; ?I participate in the demonstrations in the experiments, animations?; ?I complete the given jobs well?. Students ?Usually? agree with the items: ?I am not interested in outside class activities?; ?I express that I listen to the lesson with my behaviours, gestures and mimes?; ?I take notes?; ?I give different examples?; ?I bring the actual developments and improvements to our class agenda?; ?I explain the things I experience?; ?I complete the things when I feel there is failure and fault in the subjects my teacher or my friends explain?.That there is a positive and meaningful relation between students? trust level to their teachers and their attendance level to the lessons (r= .361, p= .000).Sugeestions according to the findings of the study: In order to increase the attendance level of the students to their lessons that is one the positive factors affecting the students? success in a good way, that increasing the students? trust level to their teachers is one factor to be taken into considerance can be preferred.
