A qualitative research on the methods primary school principals use to increase theacher performance

This is a qualitative research which aims to study the methods primary school principals use for increasing teacher motivation. For this purpose, interview method was used with primary school principals. Factors effecting primary school teachers? performance were taken into consideration while preparing interview questions. These factors were evaluated within three subcategories, namely environmental, family and work relationships. The methods school principals use to keep teachers? performance lowness at minimum was searched in this study. Voice recorder was used to collect data. Use of voice recorder was not a problem for school principals except one. Note taking method was used for this school principal.In order to learn about methods primary school principals use for increasing teacher performance, an interview form consisting of open-ended questions was used in the research. Interviews lasted 5 hours 38 minutes and 57 seconds by using voice recorder. The interview which was made by using note taking method lasted 55 minutes.In the research, there were 15 primary school principals with whom interviews were done. Interview analyses showed that primary school principals support teachers? work to increase their performance, create a warming work environment to make their morale better and use awarding methods.Key words: Performance, motivation, primary education, management,
