ABSTRACT The purpose of this study is to determine the perceptions and expectations of the Elementary Training School teachers towards their principals behaviors that motivate themselves and to offer some suggestions in order to reinforce the motivation policy in our elementary schools. The data of the study was collected by administering "Motivating Behaviors of Administrator Inventory" developed by the researcher. The instrument has 82 items in likert type The population of the study includes all elementary school teachers working in the city of Izmir. The sample was composed of 190 teachers who have been drawn from the three different socio-economic school districts. In order to analyze the data collected, several statistical techniques had been used such as mean, standard deviation, t-test, one way analysis of variance and Scheffe significance test. After analyzing the data the following findings have been reached: 1. There is a significant difference between the perceptions of the teachers towards their principals motivating behaviors and their sexes. Male teachers' perceptions about their principals motivating behaviors have been found more positive than female teachers. 2 There is a significant difference between the perceptions of the teachers working in different socio-economic school districts. The motivating behaviors of the principals had been evaluated more negatively by the teachers who are currently working at relatively lower socio-economic school district than the teachers working for middle and higher socio-economic school districts. 3. There is a significant difference between the perceptions the first level and second level teacher towards the motivating behaviors of the principals. The teachers working at the second level have more expectations from the principals in terms of motivating behaviors than the first level teachers. 4 There is a significant difference between the perceptions and the expectations of the teachers towards the motivating behaviors of the principals. The degree of the motivating behaviors of the principals are being displayed currently have been found very low by all teachers. IV
