An analysis of the relationship between elementary schools principals' emotional competence and their schools' organizational brain friendliness according to teachers' perceptions (A Case Study In Greater)

This study was designed to examine the relationship between elementary schools?principals? emotional competence and their schools? organizational brain friendliness basedon teacher perceptions within the greater Gaziantep city area, during 2005-2006 academicyear.Sample of the study was withdrawn from 5058 teachers who work in 133 publicschools. Population is clustered to Şehitkamil and Şahinbey districts. The data were gatheredfrom randomly selected 13 schools. The data were Gathered 8 schools in Şahinbey and 5schools in Şehitkamil that make up 10% percent of the whole population school numbers ofŞahinbey and Şehitkamil. The data were gathered from 335 teachers of which are 13elementary schools. Mean, scores, independent sample t-tests, ANOVA, correlation andfrequency were the tools in the statistical analyses Raw data were collected by administering a29-item Emotional Competence Scale which was developed by advisor with a reliability of(Alpha=0,98) and 28-item Brain Friendliness Scale which was developed by advisor andresearcher solely for the study in hand.Findings of the study revealed that there was a statistically significiant positivecorrellation between the subjects? (principals?) emotional competence and their schools?organizational brain friendliness, furthermore schools? were found to be brain friendly in termof organizational climate, created by the principals.Also, there was no statistically significiant difference in subjects? mean scores (of theirperception of the their principals? schools? brain friendliness ) with respect to gender, age,seniority, educational background and the serving time together with principal, in thatparticular schools.Key words: Organizational, Brain friendliness, Emotional Competence, SchoolAdministration.
