The relations between leadership orientation and perception of professional ethical behavior of elementary school administrators: A study made in the sample of the teachers

This study aims to define the relationships between primary school managers? leadership orientation attitudes (constructing, being tolerant and being persuasive) and their perceptions of professional ethics (e.g. equity, honesty, respect, professional responsibility, professional competence, human rights, love, high motivation and efficiency) with the teachers opinions. Study was designed in a descriptive model. Target universe of this study comsisted of 1025 teachers who work in 23 primary schools in the Çekmeköy district of Istanbul. Sampling group was defined with random sampling method and 200 teachers take part in the study. Data were collected with two insturments. Scale of Leadership Orientation Behavior was developed by Çoban (1999) and Scale of Professional Ethical Behavior was developed by İşgüden (2007). In the analyzes process were used ANOWA and Tukey tests for parametric data and Kruskal Wallis-H and Mann Whitney-U tests were used for non-parametric data. Pearson product-moment correlation analysis was applied to find out whether there is a meaningful relation between leadership attitudes and professional attidues of primary school manegers. Findings indicated that teachers were commonly Inconsistent in terms of leadership orientations of school managers. A positive meaningful relation was observed between managers orientation through constructing, being tolerant and being persuasive and all subscales of their perception of professional ethics about managers. n the study, it was suggested to organize for teaceher training program about ethical leadership.Keywords: Professional ethics, primary school teachers, leadership orientetion
