The effects of cooperative learning on students achivement on elementary school social studies, problem solving skills, learning styles and the views of student

The aim of this research is to determinate the effects of Coooperative Learning on Students Problem Solving Skills, Learning Styles and Achivement on Elementary School Social Studies and the Views of Students .In order to reach this aim, 34 for the experiment and 30 for the control group making a total 64 subjects which are at the fourth grade in Akıncılar Elementary School, in Buca, have been studied during ten weeks. In the research, the experiment group was tought by academical controversy which is a technique of cooperative learning and the control group was tought by the lesson book, during the unites which are called ?from Production to Consumption? ve ?Fortunately, There is?.In the research, Social Studies Achivement Test, Problem Solving Skills Scale, Grasha-Reichmann Student Learning Styles Scale and a Half-structured Student Interwiev Form About Cooperative Learning are used. In analysing the data arithmetic average, standart deviation and t-test are used. The research results are analyzed by using SPSS 16.0 and Finesse statistics packaged software.According to the findings that are acquired after the research we found important differences between level test that shows the condition at the beginning and at the end, and problem solving skilss of the control group with the experiment group, in favour of experiment group.On the other hand, there is not any relationship between academical achivement and learning styles of students. Also, cooperative learning has no effect on students learning styles. According to the findings that are required, the effect of academical controversy on students? problem solving skills reached the result in favour of experiment group which consist of students who have colobrative and competetive learning style.It is also among the findings that are required that students have positive views about the effectiveness of cooerative learning.
