The effect of web based teaching method to the success of the course in training primary teaching of social studies

The purpose of this study is to determine the influence of the use of web based teaching on the academic success and the level of retention of knowledge in 7th Grade Social Studies course unit of ?Türk Tarihinde Yolculuk? in the Elementry Education and to reflect the opinions of the students on the process. In this study among the experimental patterns pre-test and post-test control grouped half experimental pattern has been used . Environment and sample haven?t been chosen owing to experimental form of the study, work group contains 42 students who are studying at the 7th grade in two seperate classes of Pancar Muzaffer Hanım Elementry School in İzmir, in the 2009-2010 education year. Data of the study have been conducted by a success test and semiconfigured interview form. To analyze the data obtained during the research process, SPSS 16.0 was used, and for repeated measurements ANOVA and TAP (2002) programmes were used for item analysis programs. Arithmetic means and standart deviations to describe the groups, repeated measured ANOVA have been used to determine the significant changes between groups after tukey q have been used to determine the source of the significant changes. The findings conducted at the end of the study are; During the instruction of the Elementary Social Studies lesson, it has been observed that there happens a meaningful difference between the academic success of the students of the control group, to whom instructions constructivist teaching were applied and the students of the experimental group, to whom the instructions were applied the use of web based teaching, in favor of the latter. A meaningful difference has been observed between the level of retention of the experimental group, to whom Social Studies lesson in Elementary Education taught by use of web based teaching and the control group to whom the instructions were applied through traditional teaching means, in favor of the first one. In the group of students which Social Studies course in Elementary Education was taught by using web based teaching, students opinions on the unit process have been determined as positive and it was seen that the study applied affected the learning process positively and making the informations concrete, provided permanent and meaningful learning.
