The teacher?s and student's opinions about the harmony of the illustration and content of pictures that are on the 3rd grade Turkish text books

In this research, it is aimed to evaluate the harmony of the illustration and content of the pictures which are on the 3rd grade Turkish textbooks. Survey model is used in the research. The universe of this study is 30 teachers and 300 students who dealt with the 3rd grade Turkish textbooks in 2010-2011 academic years.To assess the opinions of the teachers? and students? opinions, a scale with 3 Likert style [yes (3), not exactly (2), no (1)] was developed by the help of 7 experts. Cronbach alpha coefficient was calculated and it was 0.90. It shows that the scale is reliable. The 3rd grade Turkish textbooks consists of Turkish students? book and Turkish workbook so three pictures were chosen from the students? book and three of them from the workbook. Besides this, three of the pictures were seen by the teachers and students in the first period of the academic year and the rest pictures were seen by them in the second academic year. Therefore the same scale was given the same teachers and students twice. In the study, firstly, the opinions of the teachers and students had been reflected in the post test was given via frequency-percentage method. Then, by using t-test method on SPSS.17, if there is a meaningful difference between the teachers? pre-test and post test results. After that, the same procedure was done for the students.The results of the study are: It is reached on the conclusion that the teachers and the students have liked the six pictures in the text book. However, the results of the questionnaire show that although the teachers know the students grown up aspect?s well, they don?t know enough knowledge about visual arts. The results of it also indicate that though the designers of the pictures know the visual arts, well they don?t know students? grown up aspects. Therefore it is suggested that teachers and designers work together to build up a good text book and to complete their insufficient knowledge.Key Words: illustration, 3th Grade Turkish textbook, content, text
