Abstract (EN)

This study aims to investigate the opinions of teachers and administrators working at primary schools which include students in need of special education, suffered from developmental disorders, and called autistic.The questionnaire is prepared by the researcher with the aim mentioned above and given to 117 teachers and administrators working in primary schools in the 2007-2008 academic year in Kadıköy region of Istanbul.In the analysis of the data gathered in the research, some questions were analyzed using SPSS 15 to obtain Frenkans and statistical data showing percentages. Some other questions were analyzed by doing qualitative coding.The results of the study have shown that teachers and administrators working at primary schools, lack adequate information on autism, and that they do not know how to behave towards such students. Therefore they cannot develop a positive approach towards special needs students, due to inadequate education they had on the issue.Key words: Autism, special education, primary school teacher, administrators
