Teaching fundamentals of astronomy to primary school level students using STEM

Activities contributing to astronomy education have been studied for this thesis. These activities are carried out using the STEM: Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math education method. Information about STEM and it's applications in the astronomy education field have been presented in fine detail. This method, which has been used worldwide, has been studied through various angles and the obtained information have been presented. The activities given in the scope of the following thesis have been gathered from long years of research, each of them being unique. In accordance with the Ministry of National Education Science Course Teaching Plan, different activities for each astronomy learning outcome have been detailed with recommended application stages and created by taking into consideration our educational program and resources of our schools. The primary goal of each activity is to improve the scientific creativity of students and provide them the opportunity to think. The benefits of hands-on learning instead of monotone lecturing are an accepted fact worldwide. This thesis is a source every teacher can use. Keywords: STEM, astronomy education, science education.
