Evaluation of 1st grade social studies curriculum according to teachers 'views

The main purpose of this research is to evaluate 1st Grade Social Studies Curriculum accordıng to teachers 'vıews, which was put into practice in the 2018-2019 academic year. In the research, a parallel pattern converging from the mixed research model based on the use of quantitative and qualitative research methods in collecting, analyzing and interpreting data was used. The population of the research consists of all primary school teachers who work in public schools in Osmaniye. The sample of the study consists of 128 classroom teachers working in public schools in Osmaniye. In the quantitative dimension of the research, "Curriculum Evaluation Scale" developed by Baş (2016) and personal information form prepared by the researcher were used for primary school first grade teachers. The data on the qualitative dimension of the research were collected by semi-structured interview technique. The data obtained from the quantitative dimension of the research were analyzed by using the SPSS 21.0 statistics package program. In the analysis of the data, from the t-test to determine whether there is a difference according to gender, professional seniority, in-service training, and the number of primary school readers; One-way variance analysis (ANOVA) was used to determine whether there are differences according to class size and socio-economic situation. When the opinions of the teachers about the program's goals, content, learning-teaching process and measurement-evaluation dimensions were examined, it was determined that there was no significant difference in terms of gender, professional seniority, how many times they teach first graders, in-service training, class size and socio-economic environment where the school is located. Themes were created in the form of comparing the curriculum with the previous curriculum, learning outcomes of the curriculum, content, learning-teaching process, measurement-evaluation, problems encountered during the curriculum and suggestions for the curriculum by applying content analysis to the data obtained from the interviews with teachers. It has been determined that teachers generally have positive views in terms of achievement and content. Teachers mostly use student-centered methods and techniques in the learning-teaching process; in the measurement-evaluation dimension, it was determined that they used question-answer, general assessment tests and performance-based measurement tools. It has been revealed that teachers generally have negative opinions about the learning-teaching process and measurement and evaluation dimensions. During the implementation of the curriculum, it was revealed that the teachers stated that they often encountered problems arising from the existence of abstract concepts and textbooks. According to the data obtained as a result of the research, while making suggestions such as in-service training about the curriculum, which was updated to the practitioners, and practice classes can be created for the life science lesson in schools; Suggestions were made to the researchers by increasing the stakeholder group and other studies with other curriculum.
