An analysis of the values characterizing the characters in the primary school 1st grade Turkish textbook

This research examines the values characterizing the characters in the first-grade Turkish language textbook. In line with this aim, the values that characterize the characters in the first-grade Turkish language textbook are analyzed based on "characterization features, the objectives of the Turkish National Education System, and the core values in the first-grade Turkish language curriculum, as well as certain attitudes and behaviors associated with these core values." The document analysis method, one of the qualitative research methods, was used in the study. The first-grade Turkish language textbook, accepted as a textbook for five years by the decision No. 78 of the Board of Education and Discipline of the Ministry of National Education on May 28, 2018, was used as the data source. Subsequently, the values or value(s) carried by these characters were determined based on the core values in the first-grade Turkish language curriculum. "Other values" carried by some characters outside the ten core values were identified. Thirteen values characterizing the characters in the book were found.
