Abstract (EN)

This study aims to examine the values embodied by the characters in a 2nd-grade Turkish textbook. The analysis is based on the characteristics of these characters, the core values specified in the Turkish Language Curriculum for 2nd grade by the Ministry of National Education (MEB), and the related attitudes and behaviors. The research employs qualitative document analysis, with the primary data source being the MEB-approved 2nd-grade Turkish textbook. The data obtained through document analysis were evaluated using descriptive analysis, revealing which values the characters in the textbook reflect. As a result of the analysis, it was determined that the most emphasized values characterizing the characters in the book are love, self-control, responsibility, patriotism, friendship, and respect. On the other hand, it was observed that values such as justice, leadership, honesty, and happiness were addressed less frequently. The results demonstrate that the values represented by the characters align with the core values in MEB's curriculum and the fundamental objectives outlined in the National Education Basic Law No. 1739.This study contributes significantly to understanding how value transmission occurs in primary-level textbooks. The results highlight which values are prioritized in value education and which receive less emphasis. The research findings may guide future curriculum development efforts and the preparation of educational materials.
