Investigation of the relationship between academic achievement of social studies subject and the self-regulation skills that elementary school 4th grade students have

The aim of this research is examining the relation between academic achievement of social studies lesson and the self regulation skills that 4th grade students have. The research that have been carried out holds the qualification of relational survey model which is considered as one of the survey models. The samplings of the research is composed of 4th grade, totally 550 students from 14 different schools that placed in the Center of Erzincan Province. The datas of the research have been collected by using "Self-Regulation Scale" that developed by researcher. For the analysis of the datas, which was obtained from the research; descriptive statistics, Multivariate Analysis of Variance (MANOVA), LSD test statistics, Pearson Product-Moment Correlation and multiple linear regression analysis was used. The findings of the research are summarized as follows; 1.It is determined that scores of learning strategy skills which owned by 4th grade students are high. On the other hand, it was seen that their scores for looking for help and making an effort are low. 2.It was understood that scores of learning strategy skills of 4th grade students from low, middle and high social-economic classes are high. However, it was found that their scores for looking for help and making an effort are lower. 3.It was reached that there is a considerable difference between average scores of self- regulation skills when it was calculated in perception of gender variables of 4th grade students. While it was seen a considerable difference between average scores of learning strategy and looking for help skills, there couldn't reached a considerable difference between average scores of deciding the target, planning, making an effort and self-evaluation of 4th grade elementary school students. 4.It was determined that there is a considerable difference between average scores of self-regulation skills of 4th grade students in the aspect of parents' lterate level variable. 5.It has been observed that the 4th grade elementary school students' goal setting and planning, learning strategies, making an effort and help-seeking skills predict the successes of the Social Studies lesson. However, this procedure was found to be low. However, it was concluded that the self-assessment skills of elementary school 4th grade elementary school students did not predict the success of Social Studies lesson. 6.It was seen that there is a positive relationship between their success of Social Studies lesson and self-evaluation, looking for help, making an effort, planning and deciding target of 4th grade elementary school student. But it was determined that the relationship of these perspectives is at very low level. On the other hand, it was reached that there is no meaningful relationship between students' learning strategies skills and their success for Social Studies lesson.
