Examination of social media using habits of primary school 4th grade students

This research was conducted in the 2021-2022 academic year in order to examine the social media usage habits of primary school students. The study group consists of 4th graders studying in primary schools in Arpaçay district of Kars province. For the research, interviews were conducted with randomly selected 4th grade students and 30 students determined by using easily accessible sample from sampling methods. In the research, ''case study'', which is one of the qualitative research methods, was used and the nested single case desing was used as the research desing. As a data collection tool, a semistructured interview form ''Determiniation of Social Media Usage Habits of Primary School Students'' developed by the researcher was used. Nvivo11 qualitative data analysis program was used in the analysis of the data. Social media usage habits of primary school 4th grade students; The frequency of using social media, the purposes of using it, the saturation of use and the obstacles encountered were tried to be determined. As a result of the research; Although the social media content that students watch varies according to the types, it has been observed that the reasons for using social media are generally similar and they are generally used for reasons such as being educational, relieving boredom, filling free time, entertaining. As a result of the findings obtained in the research, it was concluded that the students watched funny or entertaining videos intensively and that they mostly showed the family effect and their spare time as the reason for watching.
