Investigation of the effect of the use of word cloud in primary school science lessons on cognitive structure of students

In this study; It is aimed to examine the effect of word cloud use on students' cognitive structures in primary school fourth grade science course. Semi-experimental design was used in the research. The sample of the research consists of 38 primary school students studying in public school in the 2021-2022 academic year. Within the scope of the research, word cloud application was applied in the control group. During the application process, the word association test developed by the researcher and the field expert was applied to the experimental and control groups as a data collection tool. The pre-test and post-test scores of the students were scored by a classromm teacher and field expert. Non-parametric tests, Mann Whitney-u Test and Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test, were used in data analysis. In the teaching process carried out with word cloud activities, there is no significant difference between the experimental group and the control group according tı the pre-test findings. At the and of the teaching process, while there was no difference between the groups in terms of conceptual recall, there was a difference in favor of the experimental groups in terms of meaningful proposition. It is seen that the experimental group statistically improve in terms of conceptual knowledge. Keywords: Web 2.0, Word Cloud, Cognitice Structure, Science Teaching
