Preparation and evaluation of a documentary supported course for primary school science course

In this study, the effects of two course processes with documentary support on students' knowledge levels and opinions were examined. In the research, the intervention design from mixed method research was used. Data were collected by comprehension test and documentary opinion form. The sample of the research is 117 students studying in the 4th grade of primary school. Comprehension test data were scored with the help of analytical rubrics and analyzed with the SPSS program. Comparing the pre-test scores of the experimental groups with independent samples t-test, comparing the post-test mean scores of the experimental and control groups with one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), and finally, the difference between the pre-test and post-test mean scores of the experimental groups was tested with the paired groups t-test. Qualitative content analysis was used to analyze the documentary opinion form. The data obtained in the Documentary Opinion Form were analyzed by placing them in the codes prepared within the scope of Value Belief Norm Theory. As a quantitative result of the research, there was a positive development on the students' knowledge levels of two different course processes with documentary support. As a result of the qualitative part of the research, at the end of both documentary-supported course processes, the students gave answers in the context of the right behavior to be done about an environmental issue, and in addition, the E2 group, which watched uninterrupted documentary films, differs from the E1 group, which watched uninterrupted documentary, in that it included more empathetic expressions.
