Evaluation of the effects of child development and space perception of primary school places

Children are physically separated from home for the first time for education requirement. An important part of pre-school children in our country, because of the national regulations for optional pre-school education, experiences this physical separation when primary school education begins. This new environment in which they interact, find important provisions in children's development. This process of experience of child is not only about the school building, also includes the school's garden, the surroundings, the environment providing school approach. In this study, child development primarily examined, now that aimed to get to know the child user closely. In the context of space, innovative educational approaches that used in primary school education have been investigated and their relationships between child, furniture and space. In this thesis formed the conceptual infrastructure of environmental psychology. A field study was organised to support the work with the observation method. In Eskisehir, among four different elementary schools based on specific criterias determined in thesis, the second and third grade children at the school were asked to tell their schools by making some pictures. Through children's pictures, has tried to make an assessment about primary school places in their perception process. As a result, emphasized that the school environment has lifelong lasting effects on child's development, and aimed to raise awareness on the issues of the designers and people working in this field.
