Analysis of primary school pricipals' instructional leadership behaviours

Changes in the school management also change the attitudes and behaviors of the principals who manage the school, and also their attitudes towards the members of the group. In the presence of globalization, information technologies, organizational learning, school development management team, and Total Quality Management, there is a need that the school principals change and renew themselves. Depending on these situations and conditions, new leadership behaviors come to the fore. One of these new leadership behaviors is Educational Leadership. If a definition should be made in general, educational leadership is a process that involves the power and behaviors of school principles, teachers and supervisors, which they use to influence individuals and situations related to school. When the literature is examined, it is seen that there is no detailed study in this area at primary school level although there are studies carried out in different education levels about the perspective of teachers about educational leadership and the educational leader type that they want. In this study, in accordance with the opinions of the teachers and principals working in Karşıyaka district of İzmir province, the levels of leadership behaviors exhibited by the school principals are tried to be determined. Within the scope of the research, the principals and teachers of the public schools in Karşıyaka district in İzmir province were contacted. 35 school principals and 427 teachers in the public primary schools in the Karşıyaka district of İzmir province participated in the study. The obtained data were analyzed with SPSS 20.0 program by using frequency analysis, one-way ANOVA, and t-test. At the end of the study, it is found that the educational leadership behaviors of principals working in primary schools can increase the quality of education in schools. In addition, it is thought that educational leadership behavior will contribute to the professional development of the school principals working in primary schools, and will provide a central and local in-service training by the Ministry of National Education.
