Instructional leadership roles of elementary school principals

Abstract (EN)

In this research, it is aimed to determine the elementary school principal's instructional leadership levels regarding to the views of the elementary school teachers. In this research, it was used the descriptive survey model. The universe of the study consists of 11 central districts of İzmir. The sample of the study consisted of 390 teachers in 29 elementary schools in Çiğli, Karşıyaka, Buca in İzmir province which were selected by random. In the research, as a data collection tool, "Instructional Leadership Behaviors Scale" developed by Şişman (2004) was used. Relation to the instructional leaderships roles, in each dimension , there are 10 articles, in total 50 articles. The datas were analyzed by using frequents, percentage, arithmetic mean, standart deviation, when compared to two groups "t test", when analyzed the differences between three or more groups "One- way ANOVA". Based on the research result, regarding to the views of the teachers, elementary school principals are "mostly" fulfilling their instructional leadership role. Also it was analyzed if there were some differences between the views with regard to gender, branch, professional seniority, the size of the school regarding to the numbers of the students. While there are no significant differences between the teachers' gender, there are significant differences between their professional seniority, branch and the size of the school regarding to the numbers of the students.
