Examination of media literacy skills of primary school students, teachers and administrators within the range of distance education

Today, thanks to the developments in technology, diversity in media tools are increasing, and it is easier for people to obtain these tools. Meanwhile, changes in media tools also cause differences in children's media usage habits. Thus, with the distance education process, students had to spend most of their time in front of screens. At this point, it is essential that children, the most vulnerable group against the harmful content of the media, have media literacy skills to use the media properly. When education is considered as a whole, the extent of media literacy skills of teachers and school administrators, who play an essential role in the distance education process, is vital for the efficiency of the education process. Therefore, it has been firstly tried to reveal what media literacy and distance education are through literature review and the skills and acquisitions related to media literacy in the primary school curriculum by examining all courses in this study. After the literature information is given, the primary purpose and scope of the study are to explore the media literacy skills of primary school students, teachers, and administrators within the range of distance education. The study was designed with a mixed method, using quantitative and qualitative research methods. The study group consists of 18 administrators, 106 teachers, and 377 students at the primary school level. As data collection tools, "Teacher Questionnaire for Distance Education," "Student Questionnaire for Distance Education," and "Administrator Questionnaire for Distance Education" were used. As a result of the research, a significant relationship has been found between the efficient conduct of the distance learning process and media literacy skills. When the open-ended questions directed to the students are examined, it has been revealed that distance learning negatively affects eye health and communication.
