Analysis of sport success perception and math anxiety according to some variables in primary school students

Students in our country are studying primary school at the age of 6-11 years. Erikson's sense of success in the fourth phase of psychosocial personality theory, or failure to achieve it, is said to be a failure. Adler states that in his theory of personality and birth order, the birth order or being only child or the last child that influences the perception of success. In this study, achievement perception and math anxiety of third and fourth grade school students were investigated according to age, gender, number of siblings, single childhood, age of starting school, liking mathematics, teaching and receiving family support. The research was carried out with 374 elementary school third and fourth grade students, 198 females and 176 males in 2015-2016 educational year in the district of Güngören, İstanbul. "Personal Information Form", "Mathematics Anxiety Form" and "Children's Version of Success Perception Inventory" were applied to the students who participated in the research. In the analysis of the data, SPSS program, t test and one way analysis of variance (ANOVA) technique was used. When the findings are evaluated; It has been observed that the perception of achievement and mathematics is not significantly different according to class level, sex, age, sibling status, sibling order, experienced parents, whether or not there is a room for them, and whether or not they get help while studying. The students who do not like mathematics lessons, their perception of success is lower but mathematics concerns are higher than the student who dislike mathematics lessons. It was observed that there was a negative relationship between the achievement perception and the math concern at low level.
