Primary school students' motives for listening to music, singing and playing instrument

Abstract (EN)
It's aimed to show in this research that whether there's a significant difference or not in motives of the primary school students' motivation according to musical environment at home, actualization of musical activities with peer students, teachers or musical activities that they do alone. The study group of this, research, which was carried out in corelational study, was consisted of the second, third, and fourth grades students that was chosen one of the schools from Muratpasa, Konyaalti, Kepez provinces of Antalya city. In the study data were, collected by using "Motivation Scale for Listening to Music", "Motivation Scale for Singing", "Motivation Scale for Playing Instrument" and "Personal Information Form" which was prepared by the researcher. The research was carried out with 350 students in total. In this study, date were analysed by using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA (Tukey) and Pearson Correlation and effect size. According to research findings it' s been found that motives of the primary school students' to listening to music, singing or playing a musical instruments are high. According to the individual musical activities; students who play an instrument, sing song or being member of a musical community, have an instrument or musical toy at home have significantly higher motives for singing, listening a song or playing an instruments than the others. According to the musical environments that students have at home; students who have a family member that plays an instrument at home and students who play music, sing songs, listen to music with their families have significantly higher motivations than the others. According to actualization of peer musical activities; students who have friends that can play musical instrument, play and listen music, sing or play an instruments with their friends have significantly higher motivations for listening songs, playing an instrument or singing. According to themusical activities students have in clasrooms; students who have teachers that play instruments and sing songs have significantly higher motivation for singing, listening to music and playing instruments than the others. In the research, relationships between students' gender and their motives to listening songs, singing and playing a musical ınstrument. It's found that listening songs, singing and playing a musical instrument motives of the female students are significantly higher than the male students' motives. Listening songs, singing and playing a instrument motives of the primary school students were analysed and revealed that there's significant difference in listening song motives between the second and third grades students. The second grade students' motives to music are significantly higher third grade students' motives. The relationships between students' schools and their motives to listening songs, singing and playing a musical ınstrument were analysed and found that students in Doktor Cahit Unver (DCU) have significantly higher motives to playing an instruments than the students in Ahmet Ferda Kahraman (AFK) school.
