Examination of the relationship between primary school students' reading motivation and their attitudes to the Turkish lesson

In this study, it is aimed to examine primary school students' reading motivation and attitudes towards Turkish lesson according to various variables and to examine the level of predicting their reading motivations' attitudes towards Turkish lesson. For this purpose, the research was carried out in relational screening model. The sample of the study consists of 392 primary school 4th grade students determined by simple random method. In the research, Turkish Lesson Attitude Scale and Reading Motivation Scale were used as data collection tools. The data obtained in the research were analyzed with the SPSS 22 package program. In the data analysis process, descriptive statistics, ttest, pearson correlation analysis and regression analysis were used. According to the findings obtained as a result of the research While there was a significant difference in students' attitudes towards Turkish lesson according to gender, reading frequency, mother reading frequency variables, there was no significant difference according to pre-school education, mother's education level, father's education level, father's reading frequency variables. scale and sub-dimensions according to gender, reading frequency, mother's reading frequency and father's reading frequency variables, there was a significant difference in the extrinsic motivation subdimension and the whole scale according to their preschool education status. However, the students' reading motivations did not differ significantly according to their mother's education level and their father's education level. According to the results of the correlation analysis, it was found that there were moderate, positive and significant relationships between the students' attitudes towards the Turkish lesson, reading motivation and its sub-dimensions. According to the results of the regression analysis, it was seen that the reading motivation of the students was a significant predictor of their attitudes towards the Turkish lesson.
