Opinions of primary school teachers on efficacy of in-service training

In this study, it was aimed to evaluate and obtain opinions of primary school teachers on efficacy of in-service training. The study was conducted on primary school teachers who work in Cankiri, Corum and Izmir during 2015-2016 educational year. In this context, questionnaires were completed by 783 primary school teachers. "Opinions of Primary Schools Teachers and Managers on In-Service Training Practices Questionnaire" (2005) developed by Ucar was used to obtain opinions of primary school teachers on efficacy of in-service training. Section for managers was removed from the questionnaire and only the section for primary school teachers was used in this survey. Descriptive research method was used in the study and data were analyzed via SPSS v17.0 statistical package program. Chi-squire, frequency and percentage were used in statistical analysis. The statistically significant p-value was set at <0.05. Results of this study is summarized as below 1.The most frequently agreed expression of participants is "In-Service Training is a requirement of modern age" 2.The most frequently chosen answer by the participants for "I disagree" was the expression 14, "Participants of in-service training should be determined according to objective criteria" 3.The most frequently chosen answer by the participants according to the variable "gender" for "I partially agree" was the expression, "I would be a volunteer to participate in-service training" 4.The most frequently chosen answer by the participants according to the variable "age" for "I agree" was the expression, "Improvements in science, technology and social life make it necessary to participate in-service training for teachers and managers" 5.The most frequently chosen answer by the participants according to the variable "seniority" for "I disagree" was the expression, "Improvements in science, technology and social life makes it necessary to participate in-service training for teachers and managers" 6.The most frequently chosen answer by the participants according to the variable "marital status" for "I partially agree" was the expression "Individuals who participated in-service training activities have opportunity to make them into practice" 7.The most frequently chosen answer by the participants according to the variable "number of in-service training activities of participants" for "I agree" was the expression "Improvements in science, technology and social life makes it necessary to participate in-service training for teachers and managers" 8.The least frequently chosen answers by the participants according to the variable "education" for "I agree" were the expressions, "Participants of in-service training are selected according to objective criteria", "In-service training programs are performed in appropriate places (buildings, centers, classes etc.) and "Opinions of participants are considered at in-service training programs to improve efficiency" Keywords: Training Program, In-service Training,Curriculum Evaluation Lifetime Education, Primary School,Teachers.
