Teaching of siyer lesson in Imam Hatip high school

The cirriculum of ?mam Hatip High Schools changed in 1999.The cirriculum of siyer became different in parallel to this change and the book prepared according to this cirriculum in 2002 was accepted as a lesson book by the Board of Education.In accordance to these changes, this study is performed in order to put forward the differences and similarities between the old and the new cirriculum and the books, to determine the situation of siyer lesson teaching and to expose whether the new approaches in history teaching have opportunity to be practiced in siyer teaching. This study is limited with the teaching of siyer lesson in ?mam Hatip High Schools.Field research is performed with the students taking education in ?mam Hatip High Schoolsin Bolu and with the teachers gave and still giving this lesson. In this study, the information is obtained by literature scan for the theoretical knowledge ,and by questionnaries with the students and quantitative meetings with the teachers At the end of the research, the following results are reached: It is determined that the methods and approaches used in history teaching can be benefited in siyer teaching and in this extent, for morals in siyer teaching,a mission can be loaded to siyer in order to form an understanding suitable to history teaching and will improve the tolerance among the societies..In addition, it is determined that the methods used in history teaching such as drama, picture, story, sample event and museums can be applied in siyer teaching. It is seen that the new cirriculum and the book give much place to the subjects of military and Hz. Muhammad?s personality compared to the old cirriculum and the book, however, when Hz.Muhammad?s name is mentioned, they don?t use the expressions like our prophet and (sav.) which indicate ownership and respect..It is also determined that the new cirriculum and the book try to form a prophet purified from miracles, and religion mind and they use the Turkish meanings instead of the Siyer?s own terminology. The new cirriculum and the book base on the subject-centered teaching instead of the chronological history teaching..It is determined that the new book is weak in contents but rich in map and picture compared to the old book. In field research,however, it is seen that the lesson book and cirriculum are inefficient, classical approaches are used in lessons, the use of materials about this lesson is low, the students reach the materials except from the lesson book by means of school library, internet and the boks their houses, they are interestedin the subject of Hz. Muhammad?s personality inthe present cirriculum, they read at least one book about Hz. Muhammad?s life and the recent arguments made about the Hz. Muhammad?s life lead the students to make more research about Hz. Muhammed?s life
